Following various landmark achievements recorded by the present administration in Ondo State in less than three years, governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has bagged the Best Governor for Innovative Leadership Award
The award is tagged the African Governor Award for Innovative Leadership. AGAFIL.
Addressing newsmen at the NUJ Press Centre, Akure, the Project Director of the AfricanStride International (Media) Limited, Mr Henry Oluseye Adesola said a six month research conducted showed that governor Akeredolu deserved the Maiden Award.
The African Governor Award for Innovative Leadership (AGAFIL) is an initiative of the AfricanStride International (Media) Limited, a foremost and fast-rising public relations and media organization registered in Nigeria, in partnership with the Centre for Research and African Development Studies (CERADS), a pan-African, non-governmental, pro-democracy organization committed to propelling Africas development through advocacy, research, promotional engagements and networking as well as a host of other development and support civil society partners, such as the Africa Leadership Advocacy Network (ALAN), Women of Virtue Society (WOVIS), among others.
According to Adesola, Akeredolu’s administration has justified its promises and the mandate of the people.
The Project Director disclosed that the organization observed that the governor had shown capacity to challenge ugly trends of underdevelopments through commitment to selfless service.
He listed education, massive infrastructure development and prompt payment of salary as part of areas where governor Akeredolu performed creditably in the last three years.
Adesola pointed out that the award was not politically motivated and would be presented to the governor later in the year in Abuja.
“In Ondo State, it was a grimmer prospect that enveloped the skyline more than two years ago. The number of out of school children was growing at an alarming rate; hunger was on the rampage as the state workers had been owed more than seven months salaries, schools were in tatters and there were embarrassing degrees of paucity of infrastructures and a generally disoriented youth and women population .”
“While it was believed to be a general problem in the country whereby 28 of the 36 states could not pay the salaries of its workers, arising from the global fall in oil prices, Nigeria was in dire need of men and leaders who could think out of the box and give their people a new hope and a new lease of life.”
“Hence, for six months, our findings and studies revealed that the Akeredolu administration in Ondo State has justified its promises and the mandate of the people. The government has devised far-reaching initiative, vision and innovation to bring succour and respite to the people.”
“In the face of dwindling resources, the government has kept faith with her workers by not only regularly paying salaries, but paying outstanding arrears. Its massive renovation and reconstruction of schools across the state with the provision of basic modern school amenities and perimeter fences for the security of school children have not only rescued several children from the verge of illiteracy and hopelessness, it has significantly changed school enrollments, brought sanity to the state and promised to restore the states lost glory in education, while leading the way to future African place in the global knowledge economy.”
“In much the same way, the state is undergoing gargantuan infrastructure development unprecedented in history. Also, from agriculture to health, women and youth empowerment to industrial revolution, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu seems bent on making the people of Ondo State think anew and act anew through his innovative re-engineering of political leadership.”
“From the data obtained from contemporary African leaders for the award in 2019 and the peculiar circumstance of the state when Governor Akeredolu took over in 2017, he is overwhelmingly rated the MOST INNOVATIVE GOVERNOR ON THE CONTINENT IN THE YEAR UNDER REVIEW.”
Adesola said, “consequently, the award ceremony will hold later this year in Abuja, the capital of Africas largest democracy with the Nigeria 20th Anniversary of 4th Republic Lecture” as the twin event.”
