TECHNICAL MEETING ON REVIEWING THE IMPLEMENTATION PLAN FOR ABR+ IN ONDO STATE HELD ON JUNE 21, 2019 AT ROTUNDA, GOVERNMENT HOUSE, ALAGBAKA, AKURE

The Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu Foundation (BAAF) played host to Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency and National Population Commission, Ondo State on the 21st of June 2019, in an attempt to review the Accelerated Birth Registration Plus (ABR+) Implementation plan for Ondo State. The technical meeting was held as part of the activities leading to the implementation of the scale up of the pilot phase of ABR that took place in Ifedore local government area of Ondo state. The scale-up is expected to be implemented across the remaining 17 local governments in Ondo State.

Her Excellency in her remark appreciated Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (OSPHDA) and National Population Commission for their highly commendable effort in ensuring the successful implementation of ABR pilot in Ifedore and their active participation in the planning stage of the ABR+. Both Organizations (NPopC and OSPHCDA) also commended Her Excellency, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu for being a visionary leader whose thoughts are always on the health and wellbeing of women and children in Ondo state. Comments from a representative of the Akowe Abiyes that participated in the implementation of the ABR pilot project in Ifedore was very elating. Mrs Ogungbesan Kemi, the Akowe Abiye, expressed her gratitude to Her Excellency and her team for considering them worthy of participating in such a laudable project. She further noted that women in her community were very grateful to have the opportunity to register the birth of their children at no cost and at the comfort of their homes.

A major highlight of the meeting was the careful review of various components of the draft implementation plan during the breakout session. Participants, after the group based review, gave presentations on their comments and recommendations in order to inform the development of an evidenced based and resource appropriate implementation plan for the Accelerated Birth Registration Plus in Ondo State.
