Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State and Aminu Tambuwal has been elected as the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum from 2019 to 2021.
The outgoing Chairman and Governor of Zamfara state Alhaji Abdulazeez Yari disclosed this after the forum’s meeting in Abuja.
The nomination of the new chairman was done by Governor Nasiru El-rufai of Kaduna state and seconded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, while Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state was nominated by Governor Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos State and seconded by Governor Rotimi Akerodolu of Ondo state, before a voting process was carried out.
The outgoing Chairman of the forum and governor of Zamfara state Alhaji Abdulazeez Yari explained that the nomination of the two candidates was unanimously adopted.
The Governors deliberated on the effective ways of funding important programmes such as the Universal Basic Education, Primary Health care, as well as payment of teachers salaries and Health workers which are primarily funded by the states.
The outgoing chairman of the forum, Alhaji Abdulazeez Yari described the recent guidelines of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit which seek to impose restrictions for states and local government not to have a joint account as unconstitutional.
In an acceptance speech the new Chairman of the forum and governor of Ekiti state pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessors and work with the Federal government to consolidate on the gains of democracy.
