Many activities have been lined up for the 1st anniversary of the coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Prof.(Deacon) Sunday Adejimola Amuseghan (Lawe II) as the Kalasuwe of Apoiland in Ondo State. In a statement, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the celebration, Colonel Orire Nikoro (Rtd), said the 4-day celebration, which would feature a grand reception this Saturday 18th May, 2019, had a football tournament among communities in Apoiland as a major item. "There will also be a quiz and spelling competition for students, the conferment of chieftaincy titles and Apoi Royal Award of Excellence on some outstanding people, cultural displays, civic reception and a thanksgiving service," the Chairman stated. Colonel Nikoro hinted that those to be conferred with chieftaincy titles include the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his Deputy, Arakunrin Agboola Ajayi as well as the Chief Executive of Bayelsa State, Hon.Chief Seriake Dickson. Colonel Nikoro extolled the virtues of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Prof Sunday Amuseghan pointing out that there have been peace and stability in Apoi kingdom since he mounted the throne of his forefathers. The Chairman expressed confidence that the monarch would work towards empowering the youth through skill acquisition and bring the needed development to Apoiland. "The palace will equally work harmoniously with other monarchs in the region and in the country generally to preserve the cultural heritage of the country," the committee chairman opined. HRM Oba Amuseghan was installed as Kalasuwe after 12 years interregnum. The Kalasuwe was listed as a prominent Oba in Ondo Province in 1924 when colonial authorities first gazetted traditional rulers in Nigeria. A 1st Class king, Kalasuwe is the Paramount ruler and the consenting authority over other obas in Apoiland. He is a permanent member of Ondo State Council of Obas. Comprising nine major communities, Apoiland is reputed to be inhabited by hardworking and honest people.
