State Government, Stakeholders Bid Late Youth Corp Member, Okanlawon Ibrahim Olalekan Final Farewell

The remains of late Okanlawon Ibrahim Olalekan, the youth corps member, who died at Ese-Odo Local Government Area over the weekend have been laid to rest in Akure.

The State Government delegation led by the Chairman Governing Board of Ondo NYSC, Mr. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye, family of the deceased and other stakeholders took part in paying their last respect.

The final journey for late Okanlawon Ibrahim commenced at the State Specialist Hospital, Akure Mortuary, where his family members confirmed his identity.

The corpse draped in Nigeria and NYSC flag colours in an ambulance led a convoy to Sabo, Araromi where a short prayer conducted by the Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Kazeem Yayi Akorede was held.

At the graveside, the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi represented by Commissioner for Youth and Sports and Chairman Governing of NYSC, Mr. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye described the loss of Okanlawon Ibrahim as a tragedy.

“I must confess that this incident is painful to us in the State. Losing him while serving his fatherland is not the wish of his parents, NYSC and the State government.

However, death is an inevitable price everyone will pay sooner or later.
We must all do our best in every situation we find ourselves because death can strike at anytime.
It is our prayer that God grants the family fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

The State Coordinator of NYSC, Ese-Odo and Akure South Local Governments Caretaker Chairmen as well as INEC representative gave condolence messages.

Mr. Ogunleye later held separate meetings with family of the departed corps member, youth corps members and the clerics, who conducted the funeral service at his office.

He assured the family members that government would pay them a condolence visit soon.

Spokesperson of the family, Alhaji Ismail Olatundun thanked the state government for giving their late son a befitting burial.

Among dignitaries that attended the burial ceremony were SA to the Governor on security, Alhaji Dojumo, Chief of Staff to Deputy Governor, Dr. Kufor, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Youth and Sports, Dr. (Mrs) Dupe Eshiofonie and all the directors in the Ministry.

Late Ibrahim Okanlawon Olalekan died on Saturday in a boat mishap at Agadagba Obon, on his way back from where he participated in the elections as INEC ad-hoc staff.
He was attached to Ese-Odo Local Government Area of the state.
