The people of Igbotako in Okitipupa Local Government , Ondo southern senatorial district have gathered to celebrate the 2018 edition of ‘Utako Day’. The celebration is an annual event which brings together sons and daughters of the town from far and near to “jaw jaw ” on how to attract development to their dear country home.
At the social cultural festivity, the “Ijamas and Eghares”, Chiefs, ” Omojas” and associations paid fond homage to Kabiesi, HRM Oba (Dr.) Gbadebo Bajowa, the Rebuja of Osooro Land.
In his speech at the event, the Chairman Planning Committee , Asiwaju Benson Akindeju congratulated all Utakos for witnessing the 15th edition of Utako Day. While noting that the committee has enjoyed the support of indigenes in the Diaspora and those in Nigeria, Akindeju said that “development as we all know it entails growth, expansion, enlargement by way of provision of infrastructure and amenities .” He indicated that the burden of providing these infrastructure and amenities necessary for development can no longer be borne alone by government, hence the need for eminent Igbotako indigenes to rally round and give back to their motherland.
Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion, Bar. Oyedola Arikawe, who was represented by Mr Stephen Fasawe, in his goodwill speech congratulated the royal celebrant Oba Gbadebo Bajowa for steadily steering the ship and shouldering the burden of Igbotako for over forty years now. Arikawe said the most important business and focus of Utako Day is always for all sons and daughters world wide, settlers , guests and all stakeholders to come together like this, not just for reunion and merriment but for the purpose of contributing in one way or the other to the development and growth of Igbotako. To this end, the Chairman donated a million naira at the event towards the development of the town.
The renowned medical consultant and Professor of Medical science and Nursing at South University , Novi Michigan, Dr Salewa Olafioye, Aare of Ikale Land was also on ground to contribute his quota as an eminent son of the soil. The pillar of transformation and enthronement of transparent democracy in Africa thanked Igbotako people for keeping faith with Utako Day, noting that the world over, community development is taken seriously by all well meaning people. Olafioye stressed that as individual members of human society, we are defined by our cultural affiliation , our background and our corporate social responsibility to our indigenous society. He donated a state of the art ultra sound machine with a cash support of a hundred thousand naira at the event.
Among the major highlight of the event was the Omoso beauty pageantry , the ‘Ayo’ competition and Ise competition.
In his goodwill remark , Hon Michael Adeniyi Omogbehin , Member Federal House of Representative called on all Ikales to continue to cooperate in their quest for development.
The Utako Day Planning committee did not fail to appreciate the regular patronage of Igbotako elites who have always provided mutual and financial assistance to Igbotako, among who are Gen Olu Bajowa, the Jagunmolu of Ikale Land, Chief Paddy Arikawe, the Asiwaju Oba of Osooro Land, High Chief Samuel Kayode Akinnurun, the Asoju Oba of Ikale Land, Senator Boluwaji Kunlere, Assistant Commissioner of Police. Principal Staff Officer (PSO) on Special Duties to IGP, Bode Ojajuni among others.
