Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his wife, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, joined other eminent Nigerians to celebrate Igbo community in Ondo State.
Speaking at the 2018 Igbo Cultural Day celebration in Akure, Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, congratulated the Igbo community in the state on the occasion, and charged them to show more commitment to the Ondo project. He described the Igbos as a people with rich vein of skills and experience, who always contribute to the socioeconomic growth of the society and environment.
In his words, “I want to congratulate you on this special occasion. No doubt, your skills and experience have greatly contributed to the socioeconomic growth of the state and the country at large. It is my hope that you will not rest on your oars.”
In her goodwill message, the Imo-born, Ondo State First Lady, Chief Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu rejoiced with Ndigbo in Ondo State and charged them to reflect on the core values that distinguish the Igbo tribe from others, while calling for a continued peaceful coexistence with other Nigerians in the state.
“As we celebrate this year’s Igbo Cultural Day, it is expedient that we as Ndigbo reflect on those core values that distinguish the Igbo tribe from others, which include: hard work, discipline, respect for elders, brotherliness, industriousness, and cultural heritage.
“This celebration should also afford Ndigbo in Ondo State the opportunity to be more united in purpose and resolve to remain law abiding, and continue to coexist peacefully with other Nigerians in the state. Let me reassure you that the Akeredolu-led government is an all-inclusive government, irrespective of tribe or nationality.” Mrs Akeredolu was represented at the occasion by her Personal Assistant, Lilian Ozioma Adesokan.
In his remarks, the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo worldwide, Chief Dr John Nnia Nwodo, commended the Igbo community in Ondo State for their good name and efforts in adding to the economy of the state.
The event which took place at the CAC Grammar School field, Ondo road, Akure had in attendance, the former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, traditional rulers, Eze Ndigbo in Ondo State, Eze Sir Gregory Iloehika-, notable politicians, religious leaders, government functionaries, officials of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Ondo State and South West chapters, amongst others.
Highlights of the occasion were beautiful cultural displays by diverse tribes represented in the state, traditional breaking of kolanut, and fundraising for the proposed Igbo Civic Center.
