Photos: Ondo deputy governor visits tanker explosion scene

The Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, on Wednesday evening visited the scene of the fuel truck explosion at Onyerugbulem junction along Akure/Ilesha express road in Akure, the Ondo State Capital.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occured around 7pm on Wednesday evening (03-10-2018), claiming four lives and properties.

Ajayi, accompanied by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Olugbenga Ale and the State Commissioner for Works, Rt.Hon. Taofiq Abdulsalam, described the incident as sad and unfortunate.

Deputy Governor, who arrived the tragic scene at exactly 8.32pm also commended the emergency responders for their quick response, which according to him prevented the truck loaded with 33,000 litres of diesel from causing more havoc in the area.

He particularly lauded the officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence corps, Nigerian Police, Federal Road Safety Corps and workers of the state ministry of Work, who were at scene to prevent more damage.

Ajayi commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives and their properties to the incident.

He also directed relevant government agencies to ensure the immediate removal of all the burnt vehicles from the road so as to open it up again for traffic.

He assured the people that the government will put measures in place to mitigate such incidents in future.
