Thousands of Ondo State youth will soon be gainfully employed just as the state government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU with a Netherlands firm, Maritime Business Transport Business Solution Ltd, MBTS on the deep-sea port and Industrial Mega City project in the state.
Speaking at the event, held on Tuesday, the Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN
said the project would open up the riverine area of the state for international businesses.
Represented by his Deputy, Hon. Agboola Alfred Ajayi the Governor noted that the state was the most peaceful state in the Niger Delta, stressing that there would be a conducive environment for prospective business operators.
Giving the over view of the project, the Business Adviser to ONDIPA, Mr Ayo Ipaye said the project would be all encompassing as the mega city would house the deep-sea port, the free trade zone, Industrial as well residential areas.
His words, ‘we are not just building a trade zone but a city. It will be housed on a 2500 hectares of land. It will have facilities for import, export and coaster shipments. Electricity to the city will be supplied by a 250megawatt turban. There will be free access to the state through a well developed road network and there will be access to Lagos via Lekki which will be connected directly to the zone. It will be dubbed ‘the Ondo Industrial City,” Ipaye said.
Also speaking with newsmen on the project, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Development and Investment Mr. Boye Oyewumi, who hinted that there would soon be an industrial revolution in the state, described the project as yet another promised kept by the administration of Arakunrin Akeredolu.
‘You know for many many years the issues of deep-sea port and olokola had been there but we are finally there. The project has started. Consultants are already on the field at least 45 of them are there working day and night and the Dutch consultant will also join them to do the port feasibility, ” said Oyewumi.
‘That means the people of Ondo State in general and the south in particular should get ready because there is an individual revolution coming. We are opening that area up for business and for employment opportunities, ” he added.
The high point of the occasion was the signing of the MoU by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde for Ondo State government and Chairman of MBTS, Mr. Paul Van Eulem.
