Wife of the Ondo State Governor, Arabirin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yusuf Lasun and his wife were at the weekend honoured with Award and conferred with Chieftaincy titles in Ikare-Akoko.
The Award and Chieftaincy titles were presented to the beneficiaries by the Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Momoh during the 2017 Ikare Day Celebration held at Jubilee Grammar School Field.
While Arabirin Anyanwu-Akeredolu was presented an Award of Excellence for her achievements in the field of her campaigns against Bread Cancer, Hon Lasun and his wife were conferred with the titles of Ajagunla and Yeye Ajagunla of Ikare respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Caretaker Chairman of Akoko North East Local Government, Mr Rafiu Eniayewu said Ondo State Government is poised to execute more developmental projects in Ikare Akoko and its environs even as it has earmarked some life changing projects for Akoko land and the rest of the state.
Eniayewu who stated that the Akeredolu led government in its desire to fulfill the APC promise of a visible and an enduring change, quickly moved into action by addressing some of the infrastructural decay in Ikare Akoko, has completed some projects that have great bearing on the lives of the people
Some of the completed projects according to Eniayewu include the construction of Oyinmo/ Odeyare bridge, Ishakunmi bridge, rehabilitation of NYSC Camp and the construction of the 2.5 km VCI/Ugbe Akoko road among others.
The council boss called on the people to exercise patience with the governor who he said is working tirelessly to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
According to him, the governor is not insensitive to their plight and as such, he said the state government will soon put smiles on their faces.
Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Saliu Momoh IV at the Day Celebration enjoined indigenes of Ikare to come together for the progress and development of the town.
Oba Momoh who declared the unflinching support of the people of Ikare for the Ondo State Governor appealed to the governor to impress it upon the contractor handling the Oke Alabojuto hill the need to complete it in a speedy manner.
Earlier, the chairman of 2017 Ikare Day Celebration, Pastor Festus Oke Olusegun while welcoming guests to the occasion had told the gathering that the major aim of the celebration is to raise fund and chart the way forward for the development of the town.
Pastor Olusegun said money realised from the fund raising will be used to embark on projects like an Ultra Modern Event Centre, public toilets, bore holes and renovation of the entrance of the Olukare palace.
