Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), has organised a one-day workshop on commercial rice production.
While declaring the workshop open in Igbokoda the headquarters of Ilaje Local Government, the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. (Barr.) Olugbenga Edema admonished the indigenes of Ilaje and Ese Odo Local Government areas to take advantage of the commercial rice production project of OSOPADEC and World Bank Fadama lll in the mandate areas.
The workshop is part of OSOPADEC’s poverty alleviation and economic empowerment programmes aimed at enhancing growth in sectors other than oil in order to achieve increased food security, reduce poverty, and create employment and improved opportunities in Ilaje and Ese-Odo.
Hon. Edema described the project as highly attractive as it entails the release of grants to the participants rather than the conventional loans.
He urged the participants whose ages range between 25 and 55 to obtain, fill and submit their forms, and attend the various capacity building programmes the commission intend to organise for them.
Corroborating the Chairman, the Secretary to the Board of the Commission, Dr. Victor Koledoye informed the participants that the Commission has designated three centres for the collection and submission of the forms which include; OSOPADEC Area Office Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Secretariat and Ese Odo Local Government secretariat.
He advised the youth in the area to harvest the rare opportunity.
Present at the event were; Representative of FADAMA III World Bank project, Chief Falodun Bunmi, Facilitator of the programme, Prince Benson Eyuro and all members constituting the board of OSOPADEC.
