A gifted man of the pen, Yemi was born 2nd June Late 60s in Idanre, Ondo State, Nigeria. An experienced media practitioner whose professional trademark cuts across print, broadcast and public service journalism. A thoroughbred publicist with a passion for perception management, mass mobilization and orientation through integrated communications.
The former spokesperson to former governor Olusegun Agagu has carved a niche for himself on the various fronts. Olowolabi also directed and produced Grandstyle, a weekly television presentation that captures the pulse of parties in South West Nigeria and broadcasts contents on Broadcasting Corporation Of Oyo State, BCOS, Ibadan, Broadcasting Service Of Ekiti State, BSES, Ado Ekiti and Ondo State Radiovision Corporation, OSRC, Akure. He directed and produces Nnkan Eye, a weekly Yoruba feature on TV ,Manages www.redcarpetnigeria.tv, a 24-hour broadcast website that beams the best of celebrity events to millions of entertainment lovers online.
As media Consultant to the Technical Aid Corps, Ministry Of Foreign Affairs , the egg head designed and developed communication strategies during orientation programmes for TAC volunteers, created and produced Tacrecord, a documentary series on the activities of the agency, ed a media team to Uganda, Namibia, Tanzania, Benin Republic, Rwanda, Belize and interviewed over 1000 Nigerian volunteers in Africa, Caribbean and Pacific countries.
Yemi joined Abuja Computerised Vehicle Testing Service, Katampe , Abuja,Position Held: MEDIA CONSULTANT • Develop public awareness strategies for the take-off of the project in the Federal Capital, FCT. These include radio jingles, TV commercials, handbills and billboards; sensitising FCT residents about the importance of vehicle testing.
Created and managed a Public Affairs and Orientation Unit for the project,l Produced and edited a Quarterly Newsletter, SAFE DRIVE, for the organisation.,Managed the image and public perception for the company and its directors.
Mr. Olowolabi had a stint with Date Public Information Officers Association of Nigeria as Director General, wherein he coordinated the setting up of PIO Secretariat in Nigeria and achieved a linkage between the Nigerian chapter and other public information officers associations abroad. It’s also to his credit that he created the online registration of members nationwide, designed training programmes for members, collaborated with Nigeria Institute of Journalism, NIJ, Lagos for a calenderised capacity building for members.
The journalist Yemi forayed to the political terrain under the former governor Olusegun Agagu as Chief Press Secretary to the governor. As official Spokesman of the Government ,created a monthly interactive feedback television programme- Ask the GOVERNOR-where the Governor answered citizens’ questions on a live TV show., Published a Quarterly all-gloss Newsmagazine, SUNRISE, which served a vehicle of state wide orientation on policy direction of government and how the public could benefit from opportunities created by government, such as micro credit, Agric inputs, scholarship and bursar awards.
Yemi published a four-volume collection of Governor’s speeches entitled SOUND OF CHANGE , Produced a weekly magazine TV programme SUNSHINE SPECIAL, which highlighted the activities of the government on six television channels across the country.
Owolabi worked for the TELL Communications Limited, Lagos (publishers of TELL MAGAZINE) as Senior Assistant Editor , assigned to Arts and Entertainment Beats.,Regular book reviews and literary criticisms ,Covered Education, Heath and Environment Beats, Head, Special Investigative Desk. He was Deputy Head, Newsroom , Head, Features/ Back of the Book, BOB.
