Consequent upon the selfless service of an astute army General which had preserved the Country
as a united entity, the Federal Government had renamed the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti as Adeyinka Adebayo University, Oye-Ekiti.
Announcing this at the funeral service in honour of the general who was a former Governor of Western Region and Western State, Major Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo, held at the All Saints’ Anglican Church, Iyin, Ekiti State, Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, said the late general lived a life of service to his fatherland and fellow Nigerians.
The Acting President who described Gen. Adebayo as one who worked assiduously to promote agricultural extension services and pioneered the establishment of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training, MOOR Plantation, Ibadan can never be forgotten.
While saying that Gen Adebayo lived a fulfilling life, Professor Osibanjo said since his departure, outpour of love and nostalgia have come from appreciative Nigerians.
Earlier in his sermon the Archbishop of Ondo and Ekiti States Province, Anglican Communion,Most Rev. Latunji Lasebikan had described the late General as a disciplined and focused person whose love for humanity will forever remain green.
The Archbishop who described death as “an inevitable end that will come when it will come”, admonished Nigerians to live a life worthy of emulation and devoid of corruption.
