Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin  Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has advised graduates of Nigerian  universities to ignite the entrepreneurial skills acquired during their courses of study to combat the raging menace of  unemployment in the country.

The governor who represented the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo at the first Convocation ceremony of Elizade University, Ilara-mokin in Ondo State said education has no substitute and as such its values must be appropriately deployed to address the problems of the country.

Arakunrin Akeredolu urged the graduands to be resolutely determined to succeed without being encumbered by the challenges in the labour market.

The Ondo State Governor who used the opportunity to reiterate the determination of his government to implement education policies that will bring about positive and impactful changes, enjoined Nigerians to continue to pray for the Muhammadu Buhari administration and the Ondo State Government.

The representative of the Honourable  Minister of Education, Mr Adamu Adamu,  Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, the Vice Chancellor of  Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), said the Buhari administration was committed to improving quality access to University education, thus recognising the contributions of private universities in the education development of the country.

“The wisdom in putting education under the concurrent legislative list in our constitution in Nigeria has paid off in increasing access to university education through opportunities given to private individuals and organisations to invest in tertiary education.

“Our core objective also includes reorientation of teeming youths on the need to imbibe positive values by portraying our country in good light across the globe,” he said.

In his convocation address, the Vice Chancellor, Elizade University, Professor Theophilus Fadayomi, called on  the graduands to be prepared to continue to master the application of emerging technologies at solving existing problems and new challenges that may arise on their ways to stardom.

Professor Fadayomi also advised the fresh graduates to build a formidable network by creating and nurturing a strong alumni presence in the university for them to be worthy  pacesetters and ambassadors of the institution.

In her response on behalf of the  graduands, the overall best graduate, Miss Gift Silas of the Faculty of Social Management Sciences/Business Administration, enjoined others to work hard and contribute to the society.

She said it was up to the graduands as future leaders, to work towards making the society a better place.

“We need to set good examples for those looking up to us. There have been difficulties and challenges, but they are stepping stones to achieving greater heights,” she said.

Five graduands bagged first class honours out of the thirty-five graduands from the university while Dr Gbenga Oyebode was installed as the  Chancellor of the  University.
