The Deji and Paramount Ruler of Akure Kingdom, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, (Odundun II) has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that hoodlums and land grabbers popularly known as Omo-Onile do not have a safe haven in his domain. The monarch stated this while playing host to the Security Chiefs in his Palace.
He informed the security officials which comprises of the Representatives of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, Department of State Security Services and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps during a crucial meeting held at the instance of the Deji.
While addressing the security men, Oba Ogunlade said the activities of the land grabbers are becoming more unbearable for the society. They now constitute a menace which could assume a dangerous dimension if not quickly checked. You can imagine that they now harass innocent citizens and threaten to deal with them if certain amount is not paid to them by land owners and developers. We cannot sit down and watch things degenerate beyond control, the monarch said.
He equally frowned at the activities of the 419 gangs along the popular Ijomu area and Oba Adesida road. The swindlers are now found roaming the street unchecked and entering taxis to get soft targets. I am even aware that some of them now constitute nuisance at events, harassing guests at social gatherings and even disrupting events if the celebrant does not give them money. The sad story is that these hooligans often claim that they are agents sent from the palace. We will not allow anyone drag the name of Akure in the mud under any guise.
The security officials thanked Oba Aladetoyinbo for taking such a giant stride at ridding the state capital of hoodlums and the ravaging activities of this so called Omo-Onile. While speaking on behalf of the Brigade Commander of the 32 artillery brigade in Akure, Captain Ojo Adenekan promised that the command will play an active role in ensuring that no crime is allowed to thrive in the state. The Area Commander of the Akure area command who represented the Commissioner of Police in the State, ACP Olatoye Durosimi promised the monarch that the command is battle ready to confront these hoodlums by setting up a special squad and patrol team that will deal decisively with these notorious groups and curb their activities. The Police Chiefs also promise to deal with those dispossessing passersby and users of the over-head bridge at night. We are already devising means of getting them and we will nab them in no distant time. Other security agents who spoke also reiterated their commitment to supporting the joint task force.
The Executive Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Hon.
