OSUSTECH Inaugurates SSANU

Apart from running an all inclusive government, Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has unblemish respect for egalitarianism. Hence his recent approval for the formation of unions and associations in the Ondo State University of Science and Technology, OSUSTECH, Okitipupa. In strict compliance with the aproval, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Adegoke Emmanuel Adegbite religiously implemented the Chief Executive of the state’s vision by allowing the conduct of elections into the various offices of the unions and associations in the institution.

Barely a week after the inauguration of the Students Union Government (SUG) of OSUSTECH, another body, the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) executive, the first ever, was inaugurated.

A former students union activist, Comrade Temola Temidayo who had earlier emerged as the Pioneering Chairman of the association alongside members of his executive took the oath at the main auditorium of the mini campus of the university, last week Friday.

Ebiere Tunyan became the Vice Chairman, with Olowokanga Oluwatemi as the Secretary General while Adesoji Funmilola became the Treasurer.

Other members of the executive are Oluwadare Igbekele Richard – Finacial Secertary, Tomomewo Johnson – Public Relations Officer (PRO), Abiola Olabode – Trustee, Olatubora Dolapo – Assistant Secretary General, Olowogboye Deji – Ex-officio and Faseyiku Adekemi – Women Leader.

The national Vice President of  SSANU and a staff of the University of Ibadan, Comrade Alfred Jimoh and the Zonal Women Leader, Comrade (Mrs.) Patience Igbafe of the University of Benin were on ground to oversee the ceremony.

In his speech, Comrade Jimoh appreciated Governor Mimiko as well as Prof. Adegbite for allowing a serene atmosphere of democracy to prevail in the institution.

He applauded the senior staff for giving three slots to women out of the nine offices, saying that it aptly demonstrates respect for the gender sensitivity much agitated for in the Nigerian society by the women fold.

He also gave kudos to the protem executive for being able to put an elected executive in place barely one year of struggle. He especially thanked the protem chairman, Comrade Felix Akinnusi for what he described as “a great job” for the association.

The labour leader said that he was highly impressed by the number of staff who had indicated their interests as members and their readiness to join hands with the executive to work for the common goal of all.

He promised to work for the welfare of members in the branch, explaining the structure of SSANU and how it operates within the university system from the local branch to the national body.

“If you have a burning issue, go through the normal procedure as established and practised by our great association.

“I implore the newly inaugurated exco to always carry members along and make the management know your resolution at congresses. Please make sure that you always follow due process in carrying out your functions,” he appealed.

He added: “To you dear members, it is very important that you extend maximum cooperation to the executive by supplying useful information daily. You have more than the role of paying your dues to play”

Earlier in his welcome address, the former protem chairman, Comrade Felix Akinnusi had appreciated the governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko for approving the formation of associations on the campus and as well applauded the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Adegbite for affording staff the plain level ground to operate, congratulating him that staff are now experiencing high sense of belonging, paving way for them to work optimally.

He appreciated the visitors who travelled from far distances to oversee the inauguration and as well congratulated members of the first executive of the association in the life of the university.

He advised members of the exco never to betray the confidence reposed in them.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Comrade Temola appreciated all who were involved in the constitution of the executive and the spirits of the members which saw him as the leader.

Informing them that he would use his past experience and learn new knowledge to steer the ship of the association to an enviable height, he promised never to betray the confidence bestowed on him.

“It is my determination to take our great union to a very high level but let me inform you that I can only successfully do this through your unflinching cooperation and supports. I thank you very much, God bless you all. Please do not leave us alone,” he pleaded.
